The 2020 Super Bowl was an exciting event, as it is every year. We’re sure there was good vegan food at plenty of viewing parties and that fans were either happy for their team for winning or proud of their team for getting so far. The Kansas City Chiefs came out victorious and it was well deserved. They had more than enough reasons to celebrate afterward, and their defensive tackle chose a compassionate, generous way to celebrate.

Derrick Nnadi decided the best way to end an amazing season was by helping shelter dogs find their furever homes!

Nnadi had been working with KC Pet Project the entire season but ended it with an amazing contribution. The shelter announced that he’d be covering the fees for all the adoptable dogs available on February 2nd or earlier. This meant that people would be able to provide a loving home for one of the animals in need for free!

KC Pet Project announced on Monday, February 1st that in just one day, 44 pets were taken to their new loving homes. Of these pets there were 38 dogs and 6 cats. 40-50 more dogs were still available as of this morning.

In total, Nnadi sponsored the adoption fees for 109 dogs! At the news that these many animals were adopted in one day thanks to his generous contribution, Nnadi tweeted “Wonderful!”

What an amazing way to use his platform as an athlete and a champion. He’s not just a champion for his fans or his team, but for the homeless shelter dogs in need of homes. It’s an especially delightful and uplifting juxtaposition to the unnecessary and undeserved attention that former NFL player and convicted dog abuser, Michael Vick was recently receiving.

We hope many people are inspired by Nnadi to adopt a pet in need and welcome them into their loving homes. If you’re considering adopting a pet, check out 5 Reasons Why Everyone Should Adopt a Pet and 7 Reasons to Adopt Your Next Furry Best Friend.
