The pandemic that we are currently facing is a result of the wildlife trade and the treatment and consumption of animals. Therefore, this should be a time of learning. People should be realizing what their treatment of animals can do and habits and diets need to change after this pandemic. But instead, there are still people who don’t get it. For instance, bear bile is being used to treat coronavirus in China. In some countries, the consumption of dog and cat meat is also being promoted as a cure.
The Independent reports that an investigation found that “Sales of dog and cat meat have risen in Vietnam and Cambodia since the outbreak of the coronavirus because people believe it has ‘warming’ properties that head off flu viruses.” Doctors in hospitals have even recommended the meat to patients.
However there is no evidence that dog and cat meat has any beneficial effects. This is only contributing to the cruel dog and cat meat industry for which “10 million dogs and cats were [alread] slaughtered for eating in Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia every year,” as Four Paws told The Independent.
Sign this petition asking Anutin Charnvirakul, Thai Minister of Health, and Mam Bunheng, Cambodian Minister of Health, to issue public statements informing the public of the truth about eating dog and cat meat.
