Petition: Shut Down Herta Facilities Where Pigs Were So Abused They Resorted to Cannibalism

Factory farming is inherently cruel. Sadly, a lot of the abuse that we hear about – keeping animals in cramped, unsanitary conditions; declawing, dehorning, and debeaking; separating mothers and babies; roughly handling animals; and so on, are practices that we have come to expect. This is not to say they are okay, but rather that they are considered the norm and thus, we have come to expect them. Each practice is still terribly inhumane and needs to come to an end.

Sometimes, farms and other animal agriculture facilities take this cruelty to another level. Recently, L214, a group of French Animal rights activists, released undercover footage from a facility belonging to the French brand Herta, a Nestlé-owned company known for its pork products. The footage shows overcrowded pens with both alive and dead animals, who are covered in feces and “appear to have had their tails docked, a practice outlawed in the EU.” There is no straw or natural light and one pig is even seen cannibalizing one of the dead pigs on the ground. Not only is this extremely sad and disturbing, but many of the practices also go against European laws on farm animal welfare.

L214 is now using these videos in a lawsuit against Herta. Sign this petition to demand that the French minister of agriculture, Didier Guillaume, shut down this horrific operation now!
