Pets are always top of mind for pet owners, but they’re even top of mind at the polls! A new survey by Banfield Pet Hospital found that 65% of pet owners consider their pet’s future when deciding who to vote for.

“The human-animal bond now, more than ever, plays an integral role in people’s lives,” Molly McAllister, chief medical officer at Banfield Pet Hospital, said in a statement. Pet-owners are likely to connect with other pet owners, even if their political views might differ, according to the study.

The survey found that people consider how issues like climate change would affect their pets. “Not only is the human-animal bond stronger than ever before, our research shows that pets have the ability to impact the human-to-human bond, helping to unite people despite differences or disagreements,” said Brian Garish, president of Banfield Pet Hospital. “We’re incredibly encouraged that as a result of spending more time together, the bond between pets and their owners is only getting stronger and – even during the most stressful of times – people are more committed than ever to ensuring their pets get the preventive care they need.”

The survey results show just how close the human-animal bond is! Interested in a furry friend of your own? We encourage everyone thinking of getting a pet to adopt instead of shop.
