Recently, FOUR PAWS, the global animal welfare organization, rescued its 50th Asiatic bear from a bear bile farm in Vietnam. This was FOUR PAW’s 20th bear rescue since they started their mission to tackle the cruel practice of bear bile farming.

The 50th Asiatic bear, named Tu Do, was also the last Asiatic bear to be rescued in the Son La Province of Vietnam. The female bear had lived her life in a small cage in someone’s backyard, being regularly abused for bile extraction.

Tu Do was sent to a sanctuary where she will peacefully live out the rest of her life, unharmed and in peace.

FOUR PAWS is now calling on the Vietnam government to do something about bear bile farming. Although the demand for bear bile has decreased, there are still an estimated 324 bears suffering on bear bile farms.

Bear bile farming is an unimaginably cruel industry that keeps these helpless creatures in captivity under the worst of conditions. In recent years, the demand for bear bile has declined drastically, and those who still use it have indicated that they would try other alternative medicines. This makes the race to shut down bear bile farms all the more important.
