Former Baywatch actress Alexandra Paul joined a group of Animal rights activists to descend upon the Foster Farms Livingston Plant and protest against the inhumane animal treatment in factory farms.

The group used a U-haul to block the entrance to the plant. Some put themselves on top while others lined up on the ground.

Samantha Eachus, the press coordinator for Direct Action Everywhere, said, “We’re here to draw attention to the criminal animal cruelty. And environmental degradation and worker abuses that have been discovered at Foster Farms facilities. Peaceful activists are putting their bodies on the line to stop the slaughter here today. To ask Governor Newsom to pass a moratorium on the expansion of factory farms and slaughterhouses.”

According to Eachus, a video recording was taken at Foster Farms Livingston Plant showing animal cruelty. The footage showed chickens on a swift assembly line, often being stunned improperly and thus, suffering for even longer. However, Eachus said that the state has yet to take any action after having been given the evidence.

Eachus explained, “We have reported that to the district attorney of Merced County, and action has not been taken. So we’re here to demand action be taken against Foster Farms.”

Alexandra Paul and other activists tried to save chickens as they were driven into the plant and put on conveyor belts. They were able to save four chickens.

Local police were at the scene monitoring everything to make sure the protest was peaceful. Eventually, 11 protesters were arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest.

Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy Daryl Allen said, “We totally believe in the right to come out here and protest, voice your opinion, say what needs to be said. We are totally good with that. It’s just when you come in and start blocking the facility. And not allowing people to come in or out of the facility that’s when we start having a problem.

There has still been nothing done about the alleged animal abuse despite the evidence and protests.
