It’s officially fall, which means changing leaves, comforting beverages and crisp weather. It’s also the time for hardcore fashionistas to celebrate new collections of clothes, shoes and accessories for the new season. New York Fashion Week, September issues of fashion magazines and style blogs are filled with buzz about what’s hip and now. For those interested in the art of clothing design, what’s not to love? Couture aficionados check out new collections like they’re new exhibits at an art gallery and discuss them with the fervor of war analysts having a debate on CNN.
For the cruelty-free fashionista, fall fashion can be a mixed bag. While the beautiful things going down the runways and gracing the glossy pages are often incredible to look at, the materials used to make them aren’t always the kindest choices. Fur, wool and leather are many a designer’s go-to picks when deciding on materials, which contributes to the needless suffering of the animals killed to produce them.
Still, more and more designers, models and trendsetters are coming out against the cruelty of using these products for clothing, changing the way people view the industry and giving more options to those of us who want pretty clothes to buy without hurting a fly.
