Earlier this month, a pup named Baby Girl was left tied to a fire hydrant in Green Bay, Wisconsin, after her previous owners decided they could no longer care for her.

For many pet owners, it’s difficult to imagine abandoning a beloved pet, but this was the sad reality for Baby Girl. Fortunately, there is a happy ending to her story.

The Wisconsin Humane Society shared this heartbreaking photo of the confused pup patiently waiting for her owner to return, not knowing that that would never happen. In the photo, you can see a bright yellow fire hydrant in the middle of a neighborhood, along with a backpack filled with her favorite toys and belongings.

Unfortunately, It is not uncommon to find abandoned dogs in yards and public spaces tied to trees or other stationary objects. For these innocent animals, being tied up and helpless is terrifying.

The post has been shared more than 4,000 times on Facebook and has been featured on a popular Instagram account called WeRateDogs, says Kare.

“The international response to this pup’s story has been overwhelming, and the outpouring of kindness for her previous owner has truly filled our hearts to the brim We have been in contact with the previous owner, and were grateful for the chance to connect with her, and honor her wishes for Baby Girl to find a new home,” Wisconsin Humane Society said in a Facebook post.

The Wisconsin Humane Society posted an update on May 12 announcing that Baby girl has officially found a new home!

“Baby Girl was made available for adoption today and had a few folks eagerly waiting to meet her right when we opened She has officially found a new home! Thank you, thank you, thank you!” WHS said in the Facebook update.
