With much of the world on lockdown, many plans had to be canceled. We have to practice social distancing for our own health and the health of others. But there are still some ways of coming together even if it means we have to keep our distance. A community in Greensboro, North Carolina proved just that when they put together the most fitting and adorable birthday celebration for a 3-year-old all while maintaining social distance.

To celebrate her daughter Elizabeth’s birthday, Mary Guthrie put a sign on her front yard and put invitations in neighbors’ mailboxes inviting them to bring their dogs by her house for a doggy birthday parade. Almost all of her neighbors came by with their dogs and wished Elizabeth a Happy Birthday!

Elizabeth doesn’t have a dog of her own, but loves dogs and all the neighbors know just how much she loves seeing their dogs in the neighborhood, so they were more than happy to show up for her. The pure joy on Elizabeth’s precious face is clear in the video above. We hope someday her family will be able to adopt a dog who brings her that much joy every single day!

For those who are able, right now is actually a good time to foster or adopt an animal from a shelter or even to donate to sanctuaries. These organizations need our help more than ever.
