Cat Cafe in Ukraine Stays Open With Their 20 Cats Amid Russian Invasion

A Cat Cafe in Ukraine is staying open despite Russia’s invasion. Explosions have been happening all over the country, and fire and clouds of smoke can be seen coming from everywhere. However, this cafe won’t be leaving behind its 20 cats.

The Cat Cafe Lviv has been open for six years and is home to twenty cats who love to greet visitors and hang out with them while they’re enjoying a meal or coffee.

Serhii Oliinyk, who owns the Cat Cafe Lviv, told The Dodo, “I have a small team of several close people who have been working with me for several years and have become my closest friends. The cats have also gotten used to these people, who help to take care of them and who play with them when there are few guests because our fluffy residents love people’s attention.”

While most Ukrainians are fleeing the country, Oliinyk and his family are staying behind with their cafe and many furry friends. They want to continue providing a safe space for the people still in the city, and a coffee and a loving cat might be what many people need now more than ever.

Oliinyk said, “Our cats have been living in [the] cat cafe since the age of 4 months. They are like family. We realized that we would never leave our country, that this was the only place where we could see ourselves in the future.”

“We currently have fewer regular visitors, but there are people who have come from other cities and need hot food and positive emotions. There are three large rooms in our cafe, two of which are located in the basement, so in case of an air raid warning, there is a safe shelter for our guests and cats.”

Not only are the cats lucky to have a loyal family like this, but customers are grateful to have a place to escape to while all of this is happening in their country.
