When one of the Animal Control Officers from Fort Smith, Arkansas, found Stanley in an abandoned house at 2321 State Line Road, the dog seemed to be just waiting for someone to finally come and save him. Extremely emaciated and weak, this beautiful black dog was immediately rushed to Sebastian County Humane Society‘s offsite vet where he was thoroughly examined and began medical treatment. Now, Stanley has a long and expensive road to recovery ahead of him – but he is surrounded by people who are determined to do everything they can to save his life and give him a happy future.
Stanley, unbearably skinny, weak, and covered in fleas, has tested positive for heartworm disease. He was put on IV fluids and the vets went on to perform further tests.
Despite his sad condition, Stanley turned out to be the sweetest boy – throughout all his tests and initial care, all he wanted was to be close to his carers and new friends.

Stanley and his story moved everyone. “The animal control officer was crying when she brought him in,” the group‘s director wrote in a letter. “I tear up each time I look at his photo. Nevertheless, I really cried when I meet him. As sick as he is he just wants you to cuddle with him.”

Still at the clinic, Stanley was soon given a big soft bed thanks to a kind donor. Waiting on lab results, he is now getting a lot of rest to regain his strength. He still has a very long road to go – but is now showing signs of improvement!

Stanley’s rescuers are doing everything in their power to help him heal and, once that is achieved, they hope to find him a wonderful home where he will finally learn what it means to be safe and loved. To do that, the team is raising money for Stanley’s demanding medical care and appreciate every little bit of help.
The rescue is also hoping to identify the dog’s previous guardians and asks anyone with any information about their whereabouts to get in touch.
