It’s crazy how the stars align when you least expect it. For three sows and a piglet abandoned in the woods, the thought of being rescued likely seemed lightyears away. Thanks to a wildlife rescuer and a four-wheel drive joyride, however, these beautiful beings would soon find themselves in the loving care of Edgar’s Mission.

All four pigs were severely emaciated and infested with parasites when they were found – it’s scary to think that they may not have survived much longer. With the help of kibble and gentle guidance, they were all loaded into the transport vehicle and soon headed to Edgar’s Mission.

The sows were named Sadie, Tony, and Princess, and the piglet, Gizmo. On their freedom ride, the rescue team administered emergency care, including care for Princess’ injured hoof.

The pigs have been recovering nicely and are fitting right in with the other rescued animals. Their caretakers report that they have been extremely trusting and gentle throughout the whole process, and while Princess’ hoof is still healing, she will soon be running amuck with the others soon.

Edgar’s Mission is a farm sanctuary that provides a safe life-long home to over 450 rescued farm animals. The sanctuary sits on 153 acres outside of Lancefield, in the Macedon Ranges where rescued farm animals can roam, play, and enjoy a life of freedom and love. As their saying goes: “If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn’t we?”
