Viral Video Shows Butcherbird Swooping at Dog

A dog has been gaining sympathy online after a viral video shows him being dive-bombed by a butcherbird while in the yard enjoying some sunshine. The video has garnered a mixture of amusement and sympathy from viewers.

In the video, posted to @nowuckingfurries, the brown dog can be seen sitting in a backyard, happily sunning himself. Suddenly, he is unexpectedly attacked from above. A butcherbird, a type of predatory bird found throughout Australia, swoops at the canine from above. The brown dog cowers in shock, before running towards their human and taking shelter under a bench.

Attacks by butcherbirds are not uncommon in Australia, particularly during the spring when these birds nest. The birds will attempt to protect their young by diving at any creatures unfortunate enough to encroach on their space. Additionally, bird attacks by many species are becoming more common as humans begin to encroach on their habitats.
