Senior Shelter Dog Chance to Show Off Sweet Personality on Field Trip

Many dogs find themselves at the shelter through no fault of their own. One such dog was Zappa. The senior pup was discovered after being abandoned in a Las Vegas apartment. He was taken in by The Animal Foundation. Although the Nevada rescue’s staff was soon enamored with Zappa, the senior pup struggled to acclimate to the shelter’s noise.

In an attempt to let the senior dog’s personality shine, a volunteer took him out for a day-long field trip. The difference in Zappa’s demeanor was remarkable. First, he went for a hike on Mount Charleston. Then, he was taken to get a doggie ice cream as a reward for being a great hiking buddy. While at the ice cream shop, Zappa also received lots of attention from other patrons, including children. The volunteer who took him on the field trip said that he did great with the kids.

The Animal Foundation shared photos of Zappa before and after his excursion. In the after photos, the senior shelter dog is beaming. It is obvious that his field trip made a big difference. Luckily, Zappa did end up finding his forever home. After nearly 100 days at the shelter, he was adopted.
