Officials in Connecticut have rescued dozens of animals living in squalid conditions from a home in Woodbridge. The Woodbridge Regional Animal Control reported the rescue on Saturday, revealing that they had removed 23 dogs, 20 cats, seven rabbits, and a guinea pig from the property. Efforts to round up additional cats were ongoing, with approximately 30 more still needing to be captured.
The situation came to light when a local woman attempted to surrender over a dozen dogs to the shelter. Police, arriving at the scene with 20 dogs in poor condition, found them crammed into just five cages. Further discussions with the pet owner led to the surrender of all remaining animals.
Jessica Moffo, the town’s chief animal control officer, highlighted the severity of the case, noting that the pet owner is facing 22 counts of animal cruelty. Moffo described the situation as a “mess,” emphasizing that such neglect should never have occurred.
