Public lands should be safe for families, pets, and wildlife. Yet across the U.S., body-gripping traps like snares, steel-jaw legholds, and Conibear traps are still legal. These cruel devices slam shut with bone-crushing force, leaving victims—whether wild animals, pets, or even children—in agonizing pain. Some animals allegedly suffer for hours, even resorting to chewing off their own limbs to escape.
So far, over 55,000 people have spoken out, demanding Congress Support the Refuge from Cruel Trapping Act introduced by Congressman Jerrold Nadler. This legislation would finally ban these traps from the 570 U.S. wildlife refuges that should be safe havens, not sites of suffering. Reports already show dozens of pets caught in 2025 alone, and even children have been injured.
It’s time to act. Sign the petition now and urge lawmakers to protect animals, people, and public lands from these outdated torture devices.
