Heartwarming Moment as Foster Dad Reassures Dog He’s Staying Home

A touching video of a man comforting his foster dog, Niño, has captured hearts across social media. Shared on TikTok by Janell Laggenbauer (@fostermommy.xo), the October 20 clip has already garnered over 320,000 views, showcasing her husband’s gentle way of reassuring the four-year-old pit bull that he wouldn’t be left behind at the shelter.

In the video, Laggenbauer’s husband speaks softly to Niño, who had been abandoned twice before finding a temporary home with the couple. As they prepared for a shelter visit, he told Niño, “We are going to the adoption agency, OK? We have to bring you with us so you guys can do a meet and greet. OK? We are not taking you there to bring you back. We’re taking you there to meet a friend, and then we’re taking you back home. OK?” His calm tone appeared to soothe the attentive pup, who seemed to understand every word.

Niño, the couple’s first foster dog, has been with them for just four weeks, but the bond is already strong. Inspired to foster dogs, Laggenbauer said, “I truly believe it’s my calling,” and she and her husband are even renovating part of their home as a sanctuary for animals in need. The experience with Niño, who was anxious seeing the shelter again, reminded Laggenbauer of the lasting effects of shelter life on dogs. “Dogs who have been in the shelter deal with PTSD from it,” she shared. Happily, Niño settled down after meeting Omelet, another foster dog, and joyfully returned to the warmth of his foster family’s home.
