A Texas family spoke to The Dodo about their unique experience in the Texas storms. Their foster dog ended up giving birth during the storm!

Magnolia (Maggie) is a dog that was fostered by Aubrey Morgan and her family while she was pregnant. Morgan was nervous about fostering a pregnant dog but stayed up to date on resources for birthing dogs. “One thing I had read was the importance of puppies staying warm after being born. If they aren’t warm, they can’t digest food and will start fading,” Morgan told The Dodo.
As luck would have it, Magnolia ended up going into labor just as the storms were hitting Texas and Morgan’s family lost power. The first puppy arrived on February 16 and the house had no power and was getting cold. The Morgans moved Maggie into the bathroom and ran the shower to keep the room warm.

Eventually, the Morgans realized they needed a better solution. “After the fourth puppy was born, we realized, despite our efforts, the puppies were still too cold,” Morgan said. “That’s when my husband started preparing the car for Maggie and the puppies. Maggie had her last three puppies in the car. We first got them into the car around 2 am and stayed in there for about 12 hours.”

The Morgans, Maggie, and her seven puppies all made it through the incident safe and sound! Daisy, Poppy, Ash, Rosie, Dahlia, Clover, and Aster, the puppies are all healthy and doing well! Both Maggie and her puppies will be available for adoption from the Hill Country SPCA in April!
