A Georgia man known for his social media presence with exotic pets was arrested on October 17 after authorities uncovered an alleged illegal animal trading ring. JaeQuan Smith Devers, who went by “PetzonWheelz” on Instagram, was taken into custody following a raid on his home that revealed a collection of dangerous and tropical animals, including an American alligator, a ring-tailed lemur, and a rattlesnake.

In addition to the animals, nearly three pounds of marijuana were allegedly found at the scene, leading to drug-related charges, as well as charges for possession of wild animals without permits and possession of tools during a crime. Devers, who had garnered a social media following of over 15,000 animal enthusiasts, regularly shared videos featuring himself alongside exotic creatures such as snakes and monkeys.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Clayton County Animal Control, and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office collaborated in the investigation that led to the raid. Authorities reported that several animals in Devers’ possession, such as tegus, are prohibited for private ownership in Georgia due to their potential threat to native wildlife. Along with the exotic species, 13 dogs were also found on the property, violating local laws that restrict residents to owning no more than five animals per household.

Devers had previously advertised dogs for sale on his Instagram, calling them “super affordable” and describing his operation on Facebook as a “sanctuary and distributor for the Animals that are better than people.” Despite his social media fame, the authorities’ investigation exposed a troubling side to his dealings with wildlife.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that over 20 animals were found at the property, some of whom were illegally kept in violation of Georgia law. Devers remains in custody, facing a variety of charges related to the unlawful possession of exotic animals and narcotics.
