Five Animals with Crazy Hair

Cotton Top Tamarin

In the animal world, just like our human one, there are countless examples of nature’s creativity, but few are as striking as the creatures boasting extraordinary hairstyles. From the wild and wacky to the sleek and stylish, these animals captivate our imaginations with their unique and often flamboyant fur. Let’s take inspiration from them next time we go to the hairstylist!

1. Cotton-Top Tamarin

This primate is a cotton-top tamarin from the Boise Zoo. Apart from their stocky build and cute faces, they have amazing hair! Originally found deep in the forests of Colombia, they can be aggressive but also altruistic. Unfortunately, deforestation is hurting their population with an intense 80% drop over the past 3 generations.

2. Angora Rabbit

This Angora Rabbit, named Barnaby, not only has amazing hair but also an amazing story. He was rescued by a loving family and now enjoys eating bananas, cooling off on floor vents, and acting a little bit like a dog!

3. Gypsy Vanner Horse

The Gypsy Vanner Horse looks like something out of a fairytale, or like Rapunzel herself! They are considered to be one of the most beautiful horses in the world because of their long locks. Originally, they were bred in England by Romani Gypsies. Their hair is amazing, but they also have feathering (just not feathers) and some have mustaches.

4. Highland Cow

Highland Cows are originally from Scotland and have beautiful long hair. Typically their fur is auburn but they can be found in other colors. In this video, you can see an adult cow with their babies enjoying.

5. Silkie Chickens

Chickens come in all shapes, sizes, and hairstyles. The Silkie Chicken is covered in fluffy feathers from head to toe. Their feathers come in a ton of colors and are thin and long, so they look more like fur rather than the typical feathers that you would see on a normal chicken.

The world of animals with crazy hair is a testament to nature’s ingenuity and amazing creativity. Whether serving as camouflage, a mating display, or simply a genetic quirk, these remarkable hairstyles are more than just eye-catching—they’re essential to the lives of the creatures that wear them.
