Animal rights activists and concerned citizens are uniting in support of Argon, a German shepherd abandoned under horrific circumstances. Last week, rock climbers discovered Argon with zip ties around his muzzle and neck, left to fend for himself on a slope near North Malibu Canyon Road. Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control found him suffering from severe inflammation, warts, and skin tags, likely aggravated by exposure to poison oak.
Following his rescue, veterinarians at the Palmdale Animal Care Center diagnosed Argon, estimated to be around 7 years old, with possible lymphoma. Despite his challenges, Argon is receiving dedicated care and attention from staff and volunteers at the center in Agoura Hills.
“He is getting extra love and care from our staff and volunteers, and we will continue to Support him through his journey,” said spokesperson Leah Cohen, reflecting the outpouring of compassion for Argon.
In response to the cruel abandonment, Animal rights organizations “In Defense of Animals” and “Peace 4 Animals” are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible. Fleur Dawes, spokesperson for IDA, condemned the act as deliberate cruelty aimed at causing prolonged suffering.
Currently, Argon is not available for public adoption as his medical needs are assessed. Animal Services has arranged for him to see an oncologist to determine his treatment options. They remain hopeful that with proper care and Support from their nonprofit partners, Argon can receive the treatment he needs and find a foster home.
