After 473 Days in Shelter, Dog Gets a New Chance at Life

After spending over 473 days in a shelter kennel, a dog named Bruno finally has a brighter future. Since March 2023, Bruno and his sister Justice have called the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter home after being abandoned there with another dog. Both were initially challenging to secure, with Bruno exhibiting barrier insecurities that made him cautious around strangers and fences.

Despite these challenges, the shelter remained dedicated to finding Bruno a home. On July 10, they joyfully announced on Facebook that Bruno had been given a new opportunity. Ring Dog Rescue, a Richmond-based nonprofit focused on supporting pit bull-type dogs, recognized Bruno’s potential and arranged for him to join a board and train facility. Here, he will receive professional training and care to prepare for adoption.

Colonial Heights Animal Shelter expressed gratitude, stating, “After over a year of Bruno being here, he said his goodbyes yesterday and headed to his new life!” They thanked Ring Dog Rescue for providing Bruno with the chance to find the loving family he deserves.

Although Bruno tested positive for heartworms and has a minor ACL issue, the team at Ring Dog Rescue is committed to treating his medical conditions. The Facebook post celebrating Bruno’s journey garnered hundreds of reactions and comments, with many expressing happiness and appreciation for the efforts of both the shelter and rescue group.
