Animal abuse can come in many forms, and this story is proof that a little love and attention to animals’ basic needs can make a huge impact. Meet Hidey, a very sweet Calico cat with severe matting. Hidey was brought to Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center in Pennsylvania after her elderly guardian passed away. While little is known about the treatment or care that Hidey received in the care of her guardian, one thing was apparent, the cat’s fur had been severely neglected for years. Poor Hidey has long fur that can easily tangle and mat. After years of little to no grooming, her coat turned into a massive tangle of dreadlocks. Surely, when she arrived at the shelter for care, the rescue team realized they had their work cut out for them,

The Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center’s medical team shaved off POUNDS of intertwined fur from the poor cat’s body.

Hidey was in terrible shape and we’re sure the matted fur had been weighing her down. It’s safe to say she is feeling much better now.

She will now be cared for by a distant relative of her previous owner and will now have an opportunity for a happy and healthy life.

We’re so glad that Hidey was given a second chance and compassionate people helped uncover her from her matted fur. This gorgeous gal definitely deserves it and we wish her the best of luck in her forever home.

The Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center has taken this as an opportunity to remind people to check in on the elderly in your community and to also check in on the animals in their care. For tips on how to make sure your cat or kitten leads a healthy and happy life, check out these simple tips.

Shannon Haynie Have you ever groomed a cat in this condition?

Thankfully never! I would be so glad to help a cat in this terrible state, but wow- heartbreaking. It is always so awesome to hear of groomers volunteering at shelters and giving those animals a second chance at life

it doesn't look real - a short haired cat wouldn't grow hair like that

It isn\'t a short haired cat. "Poor Hidey has long fur that can easily tangle and mat." Reading is fundamental

Clare Hawes this is an example of what I was saying the other day about how bad matted fur can be to pets if not groomed

How the hell does a cat get dread locks?

Just when you think youve seen the worst of cruelties, some twisted unfeeling cruel B'stard finds something else to inflict on an animal.

This was out of my hometown! She was rescued by a local group, fixed up, and she has found her forever home now!

I have a calico cat and brush her regularly, and she loves it. Can't imagine how uncomfortable that poor cat must have been.
