The only time pigs raised in the meat industry get to see sunlight is in the transport truck to the slaughterhouse, after spending their entire lives in a crate that doesn’t even allow them the opportunity to turn around. It’s a horrific existence, but one lucky pig will now know love and kindness after falling out of a transport truck at just a couple weeks old!

Glen the piglet was spotted running on the road by a husband and wife trucking team who thankfully stopped to pick up the little one and brought him to Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue (what a lucky break!). The above video was taken when Glen first got to the sanctuary. According to Skylands, the piglet had a fractured right rear leg and his inside right front hoof had been torn off and ground to the bone.

Glen has been in the hospital for two weeks, receiving the care he needs but Skylands says he is on the mend! We are thrilled this young pig is receiving the care he deserves.

Pigs often get a bad reputation as being dirty, stupid animals but in reality, they are incredibly intelligent and emotional beings. Scientists have determined that not only are pigs smart, but they are smarter than dogs, some primates, and three-year-old children. They are ranked as the fourth most intelligent creature on earth!

Glen may have had a rough start in life, but it sounds like this piglet will have a bright future ahead of him! To learn more about the wonderful work of Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue and to stay up to date on Glen’s progress, visit their Facebook page.
