Animal abuse is a serious crime that is linked to other violent crimes. In fact, those found guilty of animal abuse are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans. Despite this, animal abusers regularly escape serious punishments that match their crimes. However, there is excellent news in this realm – England has announced they will be increasing animal abuse penalties from six months in jail to up to five years in jail!
England’s environment secretary, Michael Gove, had this to say about the new legislation: “We are a nation of animal lovers and so we must ensure that those who commit the most shocking cruelty towards animals face suitably tough punishments…These plans will give courts the tools they have requested to deal with the most abhorrent acts. This is one part of our plan to deliver world-leading standards of animal welfare in the years ahead.”
Not only will serious animal abusers face significant jail time, but they will also receive unlimited fines and will be banned from owning animals in the future. This new law is also hoped to help crack down on animal fighting rings.
Although this is amazing news for animals, sadly, cases of animal cruelty are more far more common than many realize, and a lot of animal abusers are never brought to justice. If you ever suspect incidents of animal abuse or neglect, please do not hesitate to contact authorities and read this for advice on what to do.
And please share this good news with your friends and family!

THANK YOU ENGLAND, THANK YOU England’s environment secretary, MICHAEL GOVE.
WHEN WILL OTHER COUNTRIES FINALLY WAKE UP AND LEGISLATE THE SAME LAW. It is indeed a fact that those found guilty of animal abuse are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans.
This law protects both humans and animals. Animals abusers MUST be punished and sent to jail. Thank you again England’s environment secretary, MICHAEL GOVE.
