While MorningStar Farms is ditching their eggs, JUST Egg is making their plant-based egg alternative available nationwide. JUST Egg is mung bean-based and made to scramble just like eggs. It is set to appear in Sprouts this month and Whole Foods next month.

JUST Inc. also makes other plant-based alternatives such as eggless mayonnaise and salad dressing, but the innovative egg alternative is especially exciting. CEO Josh Tetrick expresses that “bringing Just Egg to their customers in all [Whole Foods] locations will be a special moment.”


The JUST egg has been outselling actual eggs since hitting the retail market so this will be good news for consumers, retailers, and of course the chickens exploited in the food industry. Not only will these eggs be more easily accessible when they hit these two major retailers, but eventually they’ll be more affordable too. JUST Inc. is aiming to make JUST Egg cheaper than the production cost of conventional eggs. According to Tetrick, conventional eggs cost $0.08 while they hope for the JUST Egg to be $0.047 per egg in the next few years.
