Greggs’ vegan sausage roll was a massive success. It boosted the company’s profits by 58 percent and had the entire internet raving so much that people have been anxiously awaiting more vegan options from the UK bakery. There was much excitement two months ago when Greggs announced that they’d be launching a vegan menu in 2020. And now we know for sure what their newest addition is, and it’s arrived just in time for Easter — vegan hot cross buns!

The buns are available in stores as of yesterday, February 24th. The buns have an orange flavor and a mix of spices and vine fruits. A pack of four only costs £1. The buns will only be available for a limited time though, so readers in the UK that want to try it must take advantage while they’re there.

At the beginning of the year, they launched their vegan steak bake “using 96 layers of puff pastry, diced onions, a gravy filling and Quorn pieces instead of meat.” Now, with the launch of the hot cross buns, we can be certain they didn’t lie when they said they were going to be rolling out vegan products this year.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “We’re always listening to our consumers, so we can develop and provide people with a greater choice of products. This includes looking at a plant-based Cadbury Dairy Milk bar however, we have no immediate plans to launch a new product in market [sic].” Well, that’s something to look forward to.

In the meantime, or if you’re outside of the UK, try making your own hot cross buns with these recipes from the Food Monster App:
