PETA has once again stirred conversation with its latest Super Bowl ad featuring Emmy award-winning actress Edie Falco. The advertisement, slated to air exclusively in New Jersey, showcases Falco in a tearful plea over stolen cheese, accompanied by a message advocating for veganism.
In the ad, Falco portrays an unsuspecting woman attempting to prepare pizza, only to have her cheese snatched away. The emotional scene is combined with real footage of a cow chasing after her calf, amplifying the campaign’s message: “Cheese isn’t your baby. But it robs a mother of hers. Go vegan.” The juxtaposition is jarring and thought-provoking, typical of PETA’s signature style.

Adding a touch of pop culture relevance, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk cleverly inserted a Sopranos reference into the press release, emphasizing the severance of the bond between mother cows and their calves. However, the irony of referencing a show deeply entrenched in the meat industry seems to escape Newkirk’s statement. Capitalizing on Falco’s moving performance, PETA is offering vegan starter kits to those inspired by the ad’s message.
