When Swedish company Oatly brought their oat milk to the United States, the non-dairy beverage world was changed forever. Oat milk became a must-have at coffee shops and extremely popular in homes and grocery stores too. It’s joined the ranks of soy and almond milk as a classic milk alternative. Other companies saw its huge success and decided to join the party. Quaker, Silk, So Delicious, and Califia Farms all launched their own lines of oat milk. Now, Chobani, the top seller of yogurt in America is looking to take over the oat milk scene.
Chobani launched a line of non-dairy yogurt alternatives almost a year ago now, but those were made with a base of coconut cream. The line launching in January 2020 is made with oat milk. The fermented-oat yogurts will be available in strawberry-vanilla and blueberry-pomegranate flavors. There will also be mix-in varieties, one of which will be Peach Coconut Crisp. But it doesn’t stop there. They aren’t just launching yogurt.
They are also launching four oat drinks: plain, vanilla, chocolate, and plain extra creamy. There will also be a barista edition for coffee shops. However, they are purposely choosing not to call the drinks “milk,” perhaps to appease and not upset the dairy industry which has long been fighting the use of the word “milk” on dairy products. They’re understandably threatened by the rise of non-dairy milks. After all, you can get milk from so many things: coconut, hemp, rice, oats, soy, almonds, cashews, and more!
The new oat line from Chobani will be available in stores and coffee shops starting January 2020.
