Woman in Florida Charged for Role in Animal Crush Video Ring

A Florida woman, named Nicole Devilbiss, has been sentenced to over four years in federal prison for her involvement in creating and distributing videos depicting the torture of monkeys. This sentencing, handed down by U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger on June 18, reflects a strong stance against animal cruelty.

In Defense of Animals, a leading animal protection organization, played a crucial role in this case. They gathered 13,593 signatures in a letter to State Attorney Roger B. Handberg, advocating for the maximum sentence for Devilbiss. This grassroots effort underscores the public’s commitment to ending animal abuse.

The investigation into Devilbiss’s activities began with a tip from an informant, leading to a multi-agency probe. Authorities discovered that Devilbiss was managing a Telegram group where thousands of messages and videos depicting monkey torture were shared. On October 31, 2023, a search of her home provided conclusive evidence of her involvement in these atrocities.

According to court records, Devilbiss initially claimed she wanted to help stop the torture of monkeys. However, she later confessed to deriving a disturbing sense of relief from the videos. This admission highlighted the depravity of her actions and the severity of her crimes. Crush videos, which depict the torture and killing of animals, were outlawed in 2010 under the Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act. This legislation was further strengthened in 2019 by the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, making the creation and distribution of such content a federal offense.

Doll Stanley, Senior Campaigner for In Defense of Animals, expressed gratitude for the efforts of law enforcement and the judicial system. “The depravity it takes to lust for the torture of any creature is unthinkable. Society must eradicate the intentional torture of animals, a recognized blight that must be wiped out. We are grateful to the investigators and agencies involved in this case for upholding the law,” Stanley stated.
