While puppies have an adoption rate of up to 60 percent, it can be much harder for senior dogs to find new homes. They may have only a 25 percent chance of a loving new family according to the World Animal Foundation. People may let their age, fear of extra veterinary bills, or worry about problem behaviors stop them from opening their homes to a senior animal. However, senior animals often are much mellower, have previous experience with children or other pets, and have reached their full size. Additionally, they may already be housebroken or otherwise trained.

Heartbreakingly, one family not only chose to adopt a new puppy over a senior dog but abandoned a nine-year-old Great Dane to make room for a new puppy. In a video posted to the TikTok account @wellbehaved1, the loyal Great Dane can be seen waiting by the shelter door for her family to return for her.
Fortunately, this senior dog had a happy ending. At the end of the TikTok, it is revealed that she was soon adopted. A video of her frolicking in the snow with her new human can be seen. The video has received nearly 85,000 likes on TikTok.
