Almost everyone has seen or encountered a horse at some point. Their appearance is strong, yet graceful. There is no denying the subtle power of these incredible animals, unfortunately, not everyone holds horses in the same regard. Horses are frequently exploited for use in circuses or roadside zoos, but they are also farmed to produce the estrogen supplement, Premarin.
Thankfully, places like Duchess Sanctuary provide a safe, forever home for formerly abused or abandoned horses.
Jennifer Kunz, the director of Duchess Sanctuary, has got to have one of the best jobs in the world. Along with her dog Sidney, she runs the 1,120-acre Duchess Sanctuary in Oakland, Oregon, which is operated by the Fund for Animals in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States. Horses, other wildlife and humans are allowed to co-exist in a wild setting. Jennifer takes care of the 200 horses there and gets to live out one of her dreams.
