These Animals Have No Business Being Friends, But They Are Anyway

Did you ever have a friendship that was completely mind boggling to everyone else? On paper, you were complete opposites. The two of you should’ve barely tolerated each other let alone been chummy, but for whatever reason, you just clicked?

That’s pretty much the case with these awesome animal friends. Strictly speaking, some of these pairings should have been the Hatfields and McCoys, the Capulets and Montagues or the Paris Hiltons and Lindsay Lohans of the animal world. Basically, they should’ve seriously hated each other.

But, despite some pretty noteworthy differences, an unlikely friendship formed between them. It’s instances like these that provide proof, yet again, that the emotional lives of animals are far more complex than they’re often credited for. Each of these pals ignored what set them apart and instead drew comfort and companionship from one another. If that isn’t an example for everyone to live by, we don’t know what is!

 When Lucky the orphaned bear wandered onto a Slovenian Farm, he immediately became best buddies with the family dog. Because keeping a bear as a pet is, you know, a horrible plan, Lucky now lives at a wildlife refuge until he’s strong enough to be released back to wild.

“Now listen, I’m going to be over there sleeping. If I kick my legs and make a weird whining sound, I’m just having that dream about being in the field of dog treats again. Let’s try not waking me up from that, okay?”

This macaque befriended a dove after both of them were taken in by a wildlife rehabilitation center in China. They slept and ate together for two months before they were both released back into the wild.

The Guardian

A bromance straight out of a Disney movie bloomed when Tinni the dog befriended a wild fox on a walk in Norway. The two play each time they run into each other in the woods. Tinni’s guardian and his partner plan to create a photo book about the pair. The proceeds will go to ending the fur trade.

Bored Panda

Kate the dog found an unlikely friend when orphaned baby deer, Pippin, wandered onto her farm. The gentle great dane helped her guardians rehabilitate the malnourished fawn, who lives in the forest with a deer family of her own now, but still comes to play with her BFF from time to time.

White Wolf Pack

Sharky the pit bull likes to hang out on her Texas farm with, well, everyone!

Sobe the iguana is a pretty sociable reptile, enjoying a little cuddle time with his housemate Johann. The fact that Johann is a cat is of little importance when snuggles are on the agenda.

When monsoons in India came a bit earlier than this mouse planned, a photographer caught this candid moment of friendship.

 Cassie the kitten wandered onto a Massachusetts farm with her bird body guard Moses in tow. The protective crow made it difficult to so-much-as approach the kitten and was even observed trying to feed her. It was clear that they were a package deal, so the property owners rescued them both.

Earthlings

Anzac the kangaroo and peggy the wombat met as orphans at the Wild About Wildlife Kilmore Rescue Centre in Victoria, Australia. The pair were inseparable as they were rehabilitated for release, even sharing a pouch to sleep.
