A recent study has linked a vegan diet with less necessity for prescription medications as people get older.

The excessive use of medications among older adults is a growing concern. Many age-related health issues require several different kinds of medication, which can result in complications as some medications might not react well with one another.

The study was done on 328 participants, all 60 years old or older. They were given a questionnaire and put through several tests.

The results showed that a vegan diet cut the need for prescription medication by 58% in older adults. This often helped them to be healthier and feel better in the long run, as well as experience fewer medication side effects.

One factor that significantly affected the outcome of the study was whether or not the participants had a preexisting disease or condition. Those who were fairly healthy for their age showed less need to take medications while eating a vegan diet.

This study is no surprise, as many other studies have revealed the numerous health benefits of eating a vegan diet. Many have linked a vegan diet to benefits such as better heart health, lower blood pressure, and better cardiovascular health.

These studies also suggest that a mainly plant-based diet can provide many of the same benefits, making it a bit more accessible for those who are not used to eating a vegan diet.
