According to two research studies, eating more plant foods reduces the risk of heart disease. This goes for anyone at any age, but it seems to be especially true for women.
Two separate studies showed that young adults and postmenopausal women showed a significant decrease in heart disease and heart attacks while they were consuming a healthy diet of plant foods.
The studies showed that the women who ate the most nutritionally dense diet of plant-based foods were 52% less likely to develop cardiovascular disease, as well as health conditions and diseases linked to it.
Yuni Choi, Ph.D., lead author of the young adult study and a postdoctoral researcher in the division of epidemiology and community health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Minneapolis, said, “A nutritionally rich, plant-centered diet is beneficial for cardiovascular health. A plant-centered diet is not necessarily vegetarian. People can choose among plant foods that are as close to natural as possible, not highly processed. We think that individuals can include animal products in moderation from time to time, such as non-fried poultry, non-fried fish, eggs, and low-fat dairy.”
These studies showed that women of all ages who ate a diet primarily of plant-based foods had a much better chance at maintaining their cardiovascular and heart health long-term.
Showing further proof that a plant-based diet shows some of the best long-term health results. Opposed to an animal product-filled diet.
