As the climate crisis grows more urgent, a powerful message from Global Optimism is making waves: the mindset we choose could define the outcome. According to the platform founded by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac—architects of the Paris Agreement—what we need now isn’t blind hope or doomsday despair. We need “stubborn optimism.”

This isn’t about ignoring the facts. Scientists are shouting from the rooftops, warning that the ecological breakdown is happening faster than expected. But they also agree there’s still a narrow window to create a world where people and nature can thrive. To do this, two major transformations must happen this decade: cutting global emissions in half and protecting—and regenerating—what’s left of our natural ecosystems.

The truth is, no one has done anything like this before. The systems we’ve built are designed for extraction, not sustainability. Yet according to Global Optimism, seeing change as “impossible” is not a fact—it’s a mindset. The idea is simple: we may not control the entire system, but we can control how we behave in it. And our behavior influences everything around us.

Inaction often comes from feeling powerless. But this is the time to reframe our role—not as bystanders, but as catalysts for change. What we buy, what we eat, how we live, and how we talk about the planet—these things shape the world.

Explore the concepts of Stubborn Optimism in their book,The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis.

Choose plant-based. Support rewilding. Talk to friends and family about Climate change. Join local cleanup groups. Whatever you do, do it with stubborn optimism. Because the future isn’t written yet—and that’s our greatest chance.
