Having the chance to experience an animal in the wild, in its natural habitat, free and happy is a magical experience. Zoos and marine parks bring animals close to the general public, but they take away the animal’s ability to live life as they would in the wild. You don’t get to truly see what the animal is like in these places, as they are often unhappy being trapped in small enclosures. Rich German got to experience what most of us only dream of. He got to see orcas, killer whales, in the wild.
In the beginning of the video, Rich explains how he has seen tons of wildlife during the time he spends paddleboarding off Laguna Beach, California, but he has never seen an orca.
We have to say, this experience looks amazing. The orcas decide to interact with Rich and his paddleboard, swimming incredibly close and even under the board! Rich says he was too excited to be scared, but you can see his nerves get high when the whales shoot directly below him.
Orcas are incredibly intelligent and highly social. In the wild, they live in large pods and can travel up to 100 miles a day. It is obvious just how happy and free the whales in this video feel. They are doing what they should, living life as they choose.
