The dog meat industry has been a hot topic in recent years due to the attention surrounding the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China. However, it is a huge problem in South Korea as well, where up to two million dogs per year are killed for human consumption. Just recently, Humane Society International (HSI) identified a dog meat farm in South Korea housing over 50 dogs locked in cages awaiting death.
In order to help these innocent dogs, donations are needed now! Typically, HSI works with the owners of farms to retire the animals and helps them transition to a humane livelihood, like converting their farms to grow vegetables.
Once in safe hands, the dogs will then need medical care since many dogs raised for meat are kept in unsanitary conditions void of any type of formal care. However, in the end, many of these rescued pups end up in their perfect forever homes and are able to go on to learn what life outside of a cage is really like.
