Shelter Cats Who Have Been There for Years Shown in Heartbreaking Video

sad cat laying on ground. shelter cats there for years

Millions of animals enter shelters annually. Sadly, not all of them find homes. These animals may remain at the shelter for weeks, months, or even years. Recently, one animal rescue shared a clip that highlights the plight of some of their shelter cats who have been there for extended periods. The video was shared on The Chesapeake Feline Association’s TikTok page. The Chesapeake Feline Association is a no-kill animal rescue based in Maryland.

The felines featured in the video have not only been in the shelter for long periods but according to the video, they “have never received an application.” This means that no one has been interested in adopting the cats.

The cat’s stays ranged from 100 days (Biscuit) to 2,336 days (Hera) at the time the video was posted. That means that Hera, whose stay has been the longest, has been waiting for a home for more than six years. In that long time, she has never even received an application. Staff say that although she is shy, she is gentle and is looking for a home where she can enjoy peace. Staff hope that her story will help to remind the public to give shy cats a chance.

Hearts broke after seeing the video. “Please adopt a kitty. Years in a shelter is INSANE!!!” commented one viewer. Another said, “Awww. This makes me sad.” Hopefully, all of these cats will soon be adopted into loving homes and given the lives that they deserve.
