We all need a little extra love and comfort sometimes. Who doesn’t love the opportunity to snuggle up with someone they love or their furry best friend after a long, tough day? Well, it turns out this is hardly unique to humans. The rescued bat in this video shows that cuddles truly are universal.
Rosebud the rescued bat is currently in the care of wildlife rehabilitators in Australia. Like human babies, bats rely on their moms for not only basic care but also a major dose of love and comfort. In the absence of Rosebud’s mom, her rescuers gave her a pink fuzzy monkey that she can cozy up to. It is impossible to watch this video and not say “awwww!”
What makes this video even sweeter is the fact that this bat will now have the chance to grow up big and strong, and one day hopefully, return to the wild. Bat populations across the world are in danger of extinction thanks to human industry, Climate change, and the rise of illnesses and disease. These animals play an important role in managing pest populations and pollinating many of the fruits and vegetables we eat every day, so in many ways we NEED bats.
Luckily, thanks to wildlife rehabilitators and rescue organizations, bats like Rosebud are being given a fighting chance! We might think bats are scary animals, but a world without them is much, much scarier.
