Flying by plane emits CO2 and burns fuel, and on private jets the damage being put out into the environment is worse considering its for far less people on the plane. Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced a lot of criticism after taking four trips on private jets in just eleven days. Environmentalists, understandably, want the royal couple to make more eco-friendly and sustainable decisions, especially with activists like Greta Thunberg setting the bar and raising awareness on environmentally friendly ways to travel. She recently traveled to New York from Sweden by way of an emissions-free yacht.
Well it appears the royal couple was affected by the criticism and began looking into ways to make travel more sustainable. Partnering with Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Visa, Ctrip, and Skyscanner, Prince Harry is launching an initiative for sustainable traveling.
The initiative is called Travalyst and according to the Associated Press, it’s “focused on tackling the travel industry’s impact on climate change, improving wildlife conservation, and protecting the environment in top tourist spots around the world.” It also “aims to increase the amount of tourism dollars that go to local communities, and find answers to over-tourism.”
Travalyst may also explore “cleaner aviation fuel, more travel experiences focused on sustainability, and educating tourists on the footprints they make and the waste they leave behind.”
It’s great news for the environment that someone with so much influence is working with such large travel platforms and companies.
