For decades, over-the-counter cold and flu remedies have stuck to the same old routine—numbing symptoms without tackling the root cause. But Dr. Nazlie Latefi, a neuroscientist turned innovator, is taking a bold new approach with BioVanta, a plant-based anti-inflammatory that works with the body’s immune system, not against it.
As reported by Interesting Engineering in an interview with Dr. Latefi, the secret behind BioVanta is understanding what really makes us feel awful during a cold: inflammation. Instead of blaming the virus alone, BioVanta zeroes in on the body’s inflammatory response—especially the bradykinin-Cox enzyme pathway—to reduce symptoms and promote actual healing.
What makes BioVanta stand out is its plant-based aspirin, derived from natural sources rather than petroleum like most synthetic versions. It also includes lysozyme and lactoferrin—proteins already found in the human body that help fight infection—and aloe vera, long known for its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.
And here’s the kicker: in a clinical trial published in PLOS One, BioVanta showed no major side effects. That’s a big deal for anyone tired of the drowsiness, rebound congestion, or jittery feelings caused by mainstream cold meds.
Dr. Latefi believes this is just the beginning. “Nature already has the answers,” she said in her interview. “We’re just learning how to use them.”
BioVanta is currently available in the U.S. via Amazon, and there are plans to expand globally soon.
Let’s Support solutions that not only work but also respect the natural balance of our bodies and the planet. Next time you’re stocking up for cold season, reach for something plant-based—and leave the petroleum-derived drugs behind.
