When it comes to adoption rates in the U.S. shelter system, it seems that not all dogs are given a fair chance. Sadly, certain dogs, such as disabled, elderly, or black dogs are less likely to be adopted than others. Pit Bulls are often overlooked too, as myths about their “inherent viciousness” may deter potential guardians from letting them into their lives.
The plight of one Pit Bull named Luna – who had been awaiting a home for five years – moved an Imgur user so deeply, they decided to share her story. “I came across this pretty girl on a Facebook page, and hoping someone in Ohio can adopt her,” they said.
Luna is currently in the care of Mercy’s Door Pet Rescue, Ohio. She is six years old, weighs 48 pounds, and has been spayed. On the Mercy’s Door adoption page, Luna is described as an “enthusiastic” girl who loves her play time! She would prefer to be homed in a house without cats or other dogs.
“I love people,” she “said” through her carers, “but I get so excited sometimes, I might be too much for the little kiddos. I absolutely LOVE taking long walks, hiking, exploring and simply being an active outdoorsy girl. I am extremely playful, love tug toys and chewing on antlers. I’m the type of girl who won’t let you have a bad day. I just love life way too much to be anything but happy!”
To help this sweet pooch find her forever home, share this post. Though Luna is currently being fostered in Norton, Ohio, Mercy’s Door do consider out-of-state adoptions. You can find out more about her here.
