Rescued from a backyard butcher in Hudson Valley, New York, Mouse the pig had a rough start in life. He was kept in a single, filthy room with no fresh water and no fresh air. But thankfully, he was one of the many lucky animals who gained their freedom when law enforcement officers took down the illegal operation.

This poor piggy was brought to Farm Sanctuary with an infected leg due to an injury that had been severely neglected. After many consultations, it was decided that Mouse’s hind right hoof would have to be amputated to save his leg.

You’d think that this surgery would slow him down, but thanks to the intensive physical therapy given to Mouse by the dedicated sanctuary staff, this pig is well on his way to learning to walk again! Soon, he will be fitted with a prosthetic.

We’re all proud of Mouse for his unbreakable spirit and grateful to Farm Sanctuary, who gave him a home when he had nowhere else to go. With his horrible past behind him and the Support of the staff who love him, there’s nothing that can take the spring out of this rescued piggy’s step.
