Laura the piglet is one of the newest residents at Chilean farm animal sanctuary Santuario Igualdad Interspecie. Rescued from the squalor of a slaughter house, she was brought to the sanctuary so she could experience something that her mother and siblings likely never will— freedom. She may no longer live among her family, but now she’ll be able to live out the rest of her life in safety.
Even though she’s a pig, doesn’t Laura’s desire for affection and attention remind you of a puppy? Just like dogs, pigs are very smart, social, and affectionate animals. When you see the look of pure bliss on Laura’s face as she’s cuddled, or the way that she showers her human caretaker with kisses with her little snout, how could you not believe that all pigs deserve to live peacefully?
