New Study Reveals Young Women Love Tofu -- But Not For The Reasons You Might Think!

Millennials — especially of the female kind — are scarfing down a whole lot of tofu — but not for the reasons you may think. A new study reveals the truth. According to the Cornell Food and Brand Lab, “A new study, published this May in Eating Behaviors, involving 502 young women (20-35 years old) showed that tofu lovers saw it as a great source of light, inexpensive, energizing protein.”

Also of note was tofu’s ability to last: “Importantly, they also believed you could cook firm Tofu just like chicken, but you didn’t have to worry about it spoiling,” said co-author Adam Brumberg.

Cornell Food and Brand Lab also notes that “although Tofu is high in calcium and has no cholesterol, most of these women didn’t eat it for its healthy qualities.  Instead, they ate Tofu because it is convenient and filling.”

“They basically seem to care less about any health benefits of Tofu,” said Brian Wansink, the lead Cornell researcher. “They eat it to look good and because it’s quick to cook and it’s filling.”

And what about convincing others to try tofu? The researchers posit that it’s all about convenience: “The study of 502 Millennials comes as a surprise given that most efforts to encourage the adoption of Tofu have focused on nutrition and sustainability – promoting it as a high quality, low cost, sustainable protein source. ‘Millennials are much more likely to eat Tofu if you simply tell them ‘It cooks like chicken, but doesn’t spoil,’ than if you lecture them about its nutritional value,’ said Wansink.”

No matter your reason, tofu is a much better choice than animal protein. It indeed is convenient, it doesn’t spoil the same way animal proteins can, and yes, it also just so happens that it is better for your health, animals, and the planet too!
