New Poll Shows Employees Willing to Quit Their Jobs Over Inadequate Company Climate Action

New data demonstrates that sustainability measures are a priority for a surprising number of employees. According to a new poll by the software platform Supercritical, more than a third of employees (35 percent) are willing to leave their jobs if employers do not take action to help the climate. Among participants between ages 18-24, fully 53 percent are willing to quit their jobs over inadequate climate action.

This survey, taken among roughly 2,000 UK residents, demonstrates that sustainability measures are a priority for many employees. 

In addition, the poll shows that 20 percent of employees are unhappy with their employer’s current climate initiatives. 32 percent are not comfortable with their company cutting sustainability measures to save money, even in the middle of a recession. 

“Businesses can no longer get away with changing or scrapping their sustainability initiatives at the drop of a hat,” said Michelle You, co-founder and CEO of Supercritical.

“Employees are demanding more and employers are being held to account. Those that want to attract and retain top talent must start seeing climate action as a non-negotiable or risk being left behind.”

The message is clear: businesses can no longer consider climate measures as an expense that can be cut when money gets tight. Employers and company officials must prioritize sustainability initiatives, or risk losing vital employees.
