Mom Dog Found Cradling Puppy on the Side of the Road

When local dog rescuers saw a post on Facebook about two abandoned dogs, they had no idea what they would find when they arrived.

Jen and Roman McConn arrived on the scene to find a mother and a puppy cradling each other on a piece of cold cement, The Dodo reported. The pair run the Project Freedom Ride and they knew they needed to slowly approach the two to see how the dogs would react. Stray dogs don’t often respond well to human interaction but luckily, the mom was quickly affectionate.

“It was amazing,” Jen McConn told The Dodo. “It was like she immediately knew they were safe.”

The pair called animal control and were eventually allowed to bring the dogs to their rescue. Another local dog advocate, Becky McArdle, helped arrange a visit to the veterinarian for the pups who only were suffering minor ailments.

Now, the pups named Millo and Mina are with a foster family and they slowly began to let their guard down.

“They weren’t as fond of the baths, but I think they knew it was the beginning of a better life,” McConn said. “After bath time, they immediately came to life. Rolling around, playing, giving love, tons of tail wags. It was great. I think Mina felt like she could finally relax. She didn’t need to protect Milo anymore.”

They will stay with their foster family until early March and then they will begin to look for their forever home.

While we cannot change the horrific treatment that many animals have already endured in the past, we have the ability to give animals a voice and hold perpetrators accountable for crimes in the present and the future. Many animal abusers are not held accountable by the law, which feeds into this horrific cycle of abuse. You can sign this petition to demand all states make all animal abuse a felony.
