In a press release, the company said they have released their first set of carbon-neutral toys. This includes MEGA BLOKS Green Town, which will be the first-ever toy line available at mass retail that will be certified carbon neutral.
“At Mattel, we are focused on developing innovative products and packaging that are better for our planet by integrating more sustainable materials and principles of product stewardship and circular design,” said Pamela Gill-Alabaster, Head of Global Sustainability at Mattel.
“These new products from MEGA and Matchbox demonstrate our commitment to our 2030 goal to achieve 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials in all our products and packaging and to create a more sustainable future for the next generation.”
The company is releasing carbon-neutral toys through their Driving toward a Better Future product roadmap. The first in the line is a Tesla Roadster made from 99 percent recycled materials. Plastic pollution is a huge problem, and much is used to make toys, so it’s great to see big companies like Lego phase out plastic packaging. Fossil fuels are still being used to create toys, and we applaud Mattel for attempting to reduce its carbon footprint!
