Leonardo DiCaprio might have earned his fame for his stunning performances in movies, but in recent years, this starlet has been getting attention for another, perhaps much more noteworthy reason: his commitment to the environment.

From speaking at the UN about the looming threats of Climate change to donating millions to protect endangered elephants and the oceans, DiCaprio has made preserving the planet’s natural resources an utmost priority. Demonstrating his undying commitment to these causes, DiCaprio recently announced his plans to Donate the sum of $15 million in grants to over 30 environmental organizations.

At a time where there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than ever in human history, and the rates of species extinction and habitat destruction are raging, DiCaprio’s swift action is incredibly needed. Conservation International, WWF, International Fund for Animal Welfare, and Amazon Watch are a few of the organizations that will receive grants from the DiCaprio Foundation with the express purpose of using the funds to innovate Conservation projects across the globe.

“The destruction of our planet continues at a pace we can no longer afford to ignore,” DiCaprio said of his recent donation. “We have a responsibility to innovate a future where the habitability of our planet does not come at the expense of those who inhabit it.”

No one person or organization can work alone to solve the current environmental crisis, it requires many different perspectives, skills and specialties to even begin to undo all the damage that has been done. But there is still hope. We cannot thank Leonardo DiCaprio enough for continuing to raise awareness for the sake of the planet and all its inhabitants, but it is important to remember that we all have the power to make a difference as well.
